“Not The End of The World” Obasa Breaks Silence on Impeachment, Alleges Improper Process, Intimidation
Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has finally spoken out about his recent impeachment, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities and intimidation. Speaking at a rally held at his residence in Ikeja on Saturday, Obasa claimed that due legal procedures were ignored during his removal from office.
Obasa also accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of deploying over 200 officers to his residences in Agege and Ikeja during the impeachment proceedings, effectively locking his family indoors.
Dismissing the corruption allegations leveled against him as baseless, the former Speaker challenged his accusers to provide concrete evidence. He specifically refuted an accusation of spending N16 billion on constructing a gate, describing it as “unrealistic.”
“Is it possible to construct a gate, an ordinary gate, with N16 billion? When it’s not the wall of Jericho,” he said to the cheers of his supporters, who gathered in large numbers at the Speaker’s Lodge in Ikeja.
Obasa assured his supporters that losing the position of Speaker was not the end of his political career, vowing to continue his service to the state. He emphasized the importance of adhering to proper legal frameworks in governance, stating, “If I am not Speaker, that’s not the end of the world. If you want to claim that I am corrupt, please prove it.”
The rally drew a significant crowd of supporters who expressed their solidarity with the embattled politician. Obasa's remarks have added a new dimension to the unfolding political drama in Lagos State, raising questions about the legitimacy of the impeachment process and the integrity of the allegations against him.
